My boyfriend, Kent, also known as CapeCodSteam, and I are planning on going to Diamond Head this year. As much as I enjoy watching and occasionally tinkering with the trains, I don’t know if I’ll be able to last a whole week with little else to do. Therefore, I’m thinking about forming a “Steam Widows Club” to get all of the wives/girlfriends of attendees involved in other activities outside of the show. I hear there are a few things to do…casinos in Biloxi, a day trip to New Orleans, maybe even a shopping and lunch excursion. I’m curious to gauge interest so I can have an idea of how much time and thought to put into scoping out locations of activities, costs and things like that. The only issue that could possibly come up (as far as I know right now) would be transportation, as Kent and I are not planning to rent a car. Therefore, driving would probably fall on those who do, or even public transportation (which would be included in the research)

I’d be interested to know what people think, so if all of you guys wouldn’t mind checking it out with your significant others, I will be checking this thread to see if I’m the only one who’s concerned about boredom setting in after the first couple of days 

Thanks for your input!! Steam on!!!

Karen,
No need to start a new lady's club. There is already a Snotty Lady's Club there.

The lady's are all nice as long as there aren't any trains on their table! Seems like they keep themselves busy playing games and going on various excursions. You should be just fine.

Don't ever get cornered by these ladies. It cost me a diamond ring one year. Its a long story - but I finally gave in to their chastisments!

"Snotty Ladies"?!?
That's the first time I've heard that. 8>) I know most of them and I couldn't think any less of them than "Fantastic Ladies". After all they let you guys play trains, keep you in line and all the while enjoying themselves as well.
No problem Karen... you'll fit right in.
Kent might be another matter. 8>)
Have fun, (and see you at DH 09)

There were women there? I didn't notice!

(Just kidding! This is a great bunch of ladies - you should have a good time getting to know them! But the new bar owner DID book the "Budweiser Girls" one weekend when we were there, and they couldn't get a second look from anyone, much less sell one of their crappy beers. They weren't steam powered, and they didn't have microbrewed ale, so they wasted their time!)

Hmmmm....diamond ring, you say?  Maybe I should push Kent over there so they can corner him.

Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not a weak, brow-beaten husband. BUT, after three hours of twelve women harping on the subject I did give in.  The best part was they took care of me by doing the shopping for me so I could continue to run trains. By the way the ring was delivered on the rear of the Butt Paste train that was run that year. It took three passes for my wife to see it on the last car!

I'm thinking I might have to ask the ladies to corner Kent if it means I might get a diamond ring out of the deal.  As for the Butt Paste train, I doubt that I would have noticed a ring on the end of it either....I would have been too busy giggling at the name!

I hear there's also a Butt Paste Kazoo Band?  Perhaps we might be treated to some of their musical styilings at DH and, if Kent should HAPPEN to ask me a question, they might end up playing our wedding  ***laffin***

Alas, the Butt Paste Kazoo Band has been in retirement since it's performances at Diamondhead and St. Louis. Apparently membership requirements weren't strict enough. We did have one member that alludes to being a musician but the rest were "off the street" tone deaf or in one case almost totally deaf individuals. If only the Beaudreau people would have paid for a recording of their song it would have sold well on the shelf in Walmart right next to their priemere product.

I hear that the group might be reinstated if a new "bullet proof" director/advertising executive desiring to make no salary could be found. Last time a collection was taken-up to help pay for this position I believe $ .47 cents was collected. Maybe we could get the group included in the economic recovery package being debated in congress. Write your congress person as soon as possible! It would only take a few hundred smackers to get the new instruments needed - barely a blip on the economic radar screen.

We have been known to have some fun. But the Budweiser Girls were an even bigger bust than the Kazoo band because they wanted everyone to depart the trains for the bar. We performed in the bar so everyone could adjust their music appreciation before the concert!

Nuff said! Who's bringing the "Fart Machine" this year for Norm!
