Has anyone insulated an Accucraft (or similar) smokebox door to prevent paint discoloration?
----Thanks

Hi Tom,
This is what I did on my Ruby Mason conversion. This was something I had seen on a few locos at Diamondhead.
Before the "air-gap plate" a friend had measured the smoke box door temp at over 400 degrees. I have not been able to measure it since, but it stopped burning the paint.
