| In the Beginners Forum, Donut was asking about automating a reverse loop that is also accessed by a double slip switch. Common logic would have it that trains always go one way through a reverse loop and a rectifier is used to control polarity making this almost an impossibility.
I did some thinking on this and came up with simple circuitry that automates the whole process and lets trains enter and leave the loop in either direction (and will accomodate this slip switch). The whole system uses nothing more than track insulators, a toggle switch (that is also used to control the turn out), reed switches (3), and cheap relays (5).
I think I need to make a minor modification to the circuit, and I will further automate it to throw the turnout on the way out of the loop also. (Currently the wheels push the points over at Donut's request.) When a train re-approaches the loop, it will enter the way it came out, unless the operator toggles the turnout.
Look over the schematic in the Beginners Forum section (Reversing loop diodes, insulators & wiring detail) for a taste. | | | |
