In the old site there was a place to fill in your location.  Any chance of getting that back in?  I'm traveling to New Zealand and I remembered from the old site that Neil was from there and so sent him an email and we may hook up.  With the new site I have no idea where people are from and would have never had this opportunity.

I don't mind change as long as it's for the better :-)  There are many things I like about the new site, and that list is longer, just miss the location.

Looking forward to meeting you guys too Jim.

Location was handy to me as well. Let people know I wasn't "local"..

See ya in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

I'd like it back, makes it easier to suggest things, if you know the climate/area they are from.

It's easy enough for those members who wish to to add their location to their signatures. If you check people's profiles, more often then not their location isn't even filled in anymore.

Dwight,

My location IS in my profile, but it doesn't show under my name at the far left hand side. It used to on the old site. I think that is what Jerry and jimtyp and I are talking about.

I understand that Gary.  What I'm saying is that many - if not most - people don't provide that info anymore in their profiles.  It's kinda hard to display info we don't have.

Curiosity prompted me to check the forum archives.  From what I see there in my limited look-see, what's now displayed is the member's country (USA, Canada, etc.) but not their city.  I now can't remember if that was always the case or not.  I do remember similar issues on the old forums about asking where a member lived so as to better advise them.

At any rate, it's a fact that many are reticent to provide  ANY personal info such as location in Internet forums, and there's some justification in this though I think it sometimes gets overblown.  My suggestion is that those who wish to can easily provide their location in their sigs.   Not the best solution perhaps, but seemingly the best available at the moment.

I understand what you are saying. It would be so much easier knowing location (even a country) to answer questions someone may post here.

That's a good idea Dwight, never though of that.

Hi Dwight,

I've always had my location in my profile but since I don't have a web site I've never felt there was any reason for me to have a signature. For that matter I don't have a clue as to how to create one.

By returning the optional location to the left of posts it would seem that it would take up less space and time than having a bunch of signatures added just to show a location.

While I respect the choice of folks who wish to be anonymous for whatever reasons I think it has the effect of making MLS feel much less of a personal web site than if posts included where the person is from.

In my opinion I would prefer a system that allows folks to opt out of showing who and where they are rather than for the rest of us to have to make an extra effort to tell people where we are. It would take a LOT of work just to look up where each and every one who posts lives and with my poor memory it would be a full time job.

Regards,

Jerry

I agree with Dwight, add it to your signature... Jerry if you want help on finding the signature place in your profile, all you need to do is ask...
