I'm going to try to post 3 pix of my first run on home rails. This is partly for the Michigan contingent, who were planning to drop by after PLS, but I had to skip town early. Lets see if I have figured this out.

Hi, Nick
Yes, indeed! Anytime you want to cross over the river & boil some water with me, just let me know. Bear in mind that my minimum radius is 4 feet six inches. Small yard! My layout is a dogbone, with a tail track into the basement for storage at night, and another tail track under construction, that leads to a stub terminal with a turntable. There are no hills. The yard is on a slope, so the back part of the line is at waist height, but the track itself is flat.
I hope to see you soon. And anyone else who lives in the Philadelphia area (I'm in Ardmore).

Though not generally publicised (don't ask me why), the image size restriction has been raised a while back to 800 pixels wide in recognition that the vast majority of our members are now on some form of broadband connection.

A few more sets of photos like this, and I'll have to find another website to frequent. I suspect they were resized but not compressed.
Great pictures, Dr. J, but they take forever to to download or even scroll down.

Hi, Harvey
I'm sorry to hear that you've got problems seeing the pictures. Now that I'm setting the width in the First Class editor to 690 pixels (or, soon to be 800), I can open my own thread in MLS in about one second; no problems with scrolling. What kind of connection are you running?
Also, I wasnt aware that we were supposed to compress our JPEGs. By dictating the size (690 x whatever, with the aspect ratio preserved), that alone should limit the file size.
Someone who knows more....help?

Thanks for posting the pix, Dr J - that little loco is sadly missed by quite a few of us.  I gave up looking for one a couple of years ago only to find one for sale at The Fosse show last year - for £1200!!!  Yikes!

Talking to Roger of Roundhouse it seems that it was no a good seller for them, so they dropped it, and do not plan on building any more.

Didn't really mean to hijack the thread, the recommended size is under 100KB, yours are 712. Probably only a problem for us old computers.

I really like your ball signals, by the way.

Hi, Harvey
I'll try to remember to save as very lo res, within photoshop. I'm still new at all of this. :-)

And...thanks for the compliments on the ball signals. Scratch-bulit, based on a prototype in Whitefield ME: Go here for more on the originals:

Hello, tac
Yes, they are sadly discontinued. After months of searching, I finally got lucky, and found one on Ed Hume's flikr page. He is now having so much fun scratch-building his own locomotives that he hardly has the time to do much else in the hobby, so he was good enough to sell me his. He took care of it like a swiss watch, so its better than new. This is my first live steamer, and I'm already spoiled. Now I know what people mean when they say "Runs like a Roundhouse." I'm already saving my pennies for a SR&RL #24.
If you're ever down this way, drop in and we'll boil some water together.

Jim, a very nice looking railroad you have. Regarding your intention to next buy a Sandy River 24, you will not regret it. Mine is a dependable, strong runner, and I had a lot of fun tearing it apart to customize it into Belden Falls #12.
Where are you in relation to the PLS track? We come down to my daughter's near Quakertown.

Larry

Hi Larry
Glad to hear my money will be well-spent on the RH #24. I can hardly wait...

I live in Ardmore, which is about 40 minutes south-east of the PLS track in Collegeville. The best way to get from there to my place varies, depending on the time of day, and the status of the Blue Route (476). Let me know when you're coming down, and if you want to make your drive a little longer (ha!), I'd be happy to have you over.

Keep me posted on the Sutherlands chuffer, and enjoy your trip to Merrie Olde England.
